White Oat Loaf

This hearty white oat loaf bread is a simple, stress free way to bake! A delicious white bread filled with oats that is sandwich ready!

Ingredients
  

Bread

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup instant oats
  • 3 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp brown sugar
  • 5 tsp honey
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups skim milk lukewarm

Topping

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • 2 tbsp instant oats

Instructions
 

Bread

  • In a mixer, or in a large bowl with an electric mixer, combine all ingredients together for 4-7 minutes. It's done when you can press into it with your finger and it spring's back into place.
  • Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough in it, covering and allow it to rise for one hour in a warm place.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and fold it over itself 5 times. Then, roll the dough into a log shape, roughly 9 inches long. When placed in your greased bread pan (9 by 5), it should fit perfectly. Cover it with greased plastic wrap and allow it to rise in the pan for another 1 1/2 hours.
  • While it's almost done rising, preheat the oven to 350°.

Topping

  • Beat the egg white and water togther. Using a basting brush, paint the top of the loaf with the liquid until it is completely covered.
  • Sprinkle the oats all over the bread.

Baking the bread

  • Place the loaf in oven and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  • A loaf of bread is done once it hits 190° internally, so if you're like me and think that looks can be deceiving, you can temp it to be sure!
  • Once cooked, pop it out of the pan and allow it to cool on a cooling rack.
