Air Fryer Honey Mustard Boneless Wings

Few foods double as both comforting and adventurous – but boneless wings definitely fit the bill. That delicious breading reminds me of a family picnic, ordering a large box of friend chicken and a lot of different sides. What boneless wings have that your average picnic does not, is a plethora of sauces to douse them in – garlic parmesan, buffalo, ranch, southwest, raspberry…. the list goes on and on. One of my favorites would be a good, classic honey mustard boneless wing.

The catch? We don’t own a deep fryer – for good reason; I’d probably gain 50 lbs if we did. So the question is – how do we get those delicious flavors without all of the extra calories? Furthermore, how do I get good quality honey mustard when most store brands are not that great? The answer is simple – use an air fryer with a carefully crafted recipe and end things with a honey mustard of my own!

The key to this recipe really is in breading – if you are hoping for a delectable, crispy exterior in an air fryer you absolutely must double bread it. To ensure that you get the results you need, the second coating in my opinion must be Panko bread crumbs as they are already crunchy! This recipe is well seasoned and creates some of the juiciest boneless wings you will ever enjoy!

Admittedly, you have to be committed as double breading chicken does take some time – but trust me, it is definitely worth it. I would rather spend the extra time and know the results will be perfect than use one layer and be disappointed. The second layer also helps hold the moisture in as well!

The sweetest part of this recipe is the honey mustard – literally and figuratively. It’s delectably sweet and the amount of time it takes to make (< 5) is also sweet! Once you discover how easy it is to make, you’ll be making it in batches and pouring it on everything! If you decide to make extra, it’s safe in the fridge for 1-2 months.

We hope you enjoy and please let us know your thoughts!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

Boneless Wing Recipe

  • 2 lbs chicken breasts boneless, skinless (typically 2 large breasts)
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp italian seasoning
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • cooking spray I prefer olive oil

Honey Mustard Recipe

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup mayo reduced fat
  • 3 tbsp whole grain mustard seed
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

Dipping Stations

  • You will need to create 4 dipping stations (I use 4 bowls).
  • In your first bowl, simply pour the 1/2 cup of buttermilk into a bowl for easy dipping.
  • In your second bowl, mix the flour with 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 tsp salt, and the full tbsp of italian seasoning.
  • In your third bowl, mix the 4 eggs as well as you can. Mix in 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper.
  • In your last bowl, mix the panko bread crumbs with the remaining 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp pepper.

Making the wings

  • Slice the chicken breasts in half, length wise, creating two tenderloins. You should have a total of 4.
  • Slice the breasts into small, irregular nuggets or wings. Make them no larger than 1 inch in size or they will not cook completely.
  • Using your hands or a utenstil (I like to use separate forks for each bowl), coat each wing in butter milk, then flour, then eggs and finally panko bread crumbs.
  • If you can, once done, let them rest in the refridgerator for 15 minutes to hold their breading better. This step is not necessary but will improve your results.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 375°. Lay the wings out onto the baking sheets of the air fryer. Depending on the size of your model, you may have to make these in two batches (or cut the recipe in 1/2).
  • Spray the wings with the cooking spray and place in the Air Fryer and cook for 8 minutes.
  • At the 8 minute mark, flip the wings so the other size can brown evenly. I like to switch the racks position (top to bottom) to ensure even browning for both trays.

Honey Mustard

  • Mix all ingredients together until the honey mustard forms.
  • Place the finished wings in a bowl and drizzle the honey mustard over it. Mix well.
